Love Letters to Myself - Cabbage Village (Bonus Track)

One fateful evening I went to the grocery store and found four giant heads of Napa cabbage in the fresh vegetable department. I stared at these huge cabbages, wondering if anyone else could see—and was as amazed as I was by—these absolutely enormous cabbages. I decided to buy one.

I texted my uncle and aunt, asking if they'd be down to eat some soup I was going to make with cabbage and meatballs. They agreed, and I started driving home. I recorded myself twice that evening, improv-singing about giant cabbages and wanting a couple of people (*ahem* a couple o' bitches) to help me eat all of the cabbage.

When I was very young, I thought the waiter was asking if I wanted a "super salad" not "soup or salad", so that's another little homage to my younger self. Lololol I also am very proud of the portmanteau of "cabbage" + "bitch" at the end!!

As I was practicing this song, I kept thinking "modal, modal mixture"... It goes back and forth between major and minor 3rds, 6ths, and 7ths. Soooo bluesy!! Soooo fun!!!

The ending of this track was inspired by the ending of Vanessa Carlton's third album Heroes & Thieves, my favorite album of hers. I won't even say what it is—you just have to go and listen to it yourself!!

This track is the ultimate cheeky and self-aware ending to my album. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
